Fall Classic Game 7 Captures Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The nail-biting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51 million watchers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball announced this represents the most-watched World Series Game 7 since the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Breakdown

Last Saturday’s epic game drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 ranked 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in 13th place.

Global Audience Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game recorded 11.6M viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12M. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in Japan.

Overall Totals and Trends

The entire seven-game series drew 15.71M viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total American viewership was 16.1 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and Fox’s best postseason ratings after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 media partners in sixteen various languages.
