Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, evil spirits, and dark forces growing in strength within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
The third episode ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of adventurers who will split off from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
This warrior group features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (Whitney), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.
At first glance, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to head next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.
An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the campaign’s events—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Individual Reasons
Secondly, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, desires revenge.
- Kattigan knows the region and advises that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill the fighter and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could assist the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- Teor is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This results in them few options but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.
Upcoming Developments
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Explorers and Schemers groups.
Audiences can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on October 24.
